It all began with the Oct/Nov Issue of Bust Magazine. Under the Indie Finds section on page 54 was Margaret, Pear Threads’ tortoise messenger bag with coral trim. That was perhaps the most adorable messenger bag I have ever seen. As I did for most — if not all — of the ads in that issue of Bust, I visited their website (pearThreads.com). “Wow”, I thought, “Beautiful stuff!”

Pear Threads was founded by a pair of sewing enthusiasts, twin sisters, Mary and Tracy Kruger. Though Tracy lives in Denmark, Mary and the business is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. They create a wide variety of products from messenger bags to headbands, clutches to diaper bags and skirts. Their signature look is apparent in each item and each is consistently gorgeous. Everything — and I literally mean EVERYTHING — is adorable.
There was no doubt about it — I was resolved to get a Pear Threads messenger bag… but which one? There were 17 styles to choose from. Margaret was cute… but so was Analisa, oh and how about that Leah?!? After much debate, I chose Scarlett (pictured above and below). Adorned by a cute vintage pin, Scarlett was constructed from brown faux alligator vinyl and chartreuse decorator fabric with rust piping. It even came with a matching mini-clutch. Whoo-hoo!
Beautifully handmade in the USA, Scarlett was my first indie purchase. Since it arrived, I’ve worn it daily and have received dozens of compliments from those who can’t help but adore Scarlett.
