Japantown & Remix

02/17/2010 in snapshots,what i wore

I took these photos at the corner of Post and Webster at Japantown some time last week.

Japantown

The sign below has got me all excited about Meat Day, which is March 1st. Put it on your calendar.

Japantown

Despite it’s sterile exterior, this building is a mecca for good food, fun, and cute.

Japantown

My favorite shops:

  • Kinokuniya Stationery (1st floor — insane kawaii section)
  • Kinokuniya Stationery (2nd floor — kawaii lite for *adults*)
  • Kinokuniya Bookstore (Rement, fashion mags, manga)
  • Pika Pika (great place to go for Asian-style photobooths)
  • Izumiya (hands down, the BEST sushi in the Bay Area)

Japantown

I love these Japanese lanterns in various geometric and floral patterns. I tried to take more pictures inside the store, but the owner ran me out.

And this is what I wore on that cold day:

Love the lanterns (and “meat day”!), and your monochromatic outfit looked very warm and cute!

Japantown looks like a lot of fun! I’m totally craving sushi right now.

I love your blue Danskos! I don’t think I’ve even seen that particular style before.

Katrina- you look like an old movie star. Wait- not an “old” movie star- I mean, like an old-genre movie star from the 20′s or 30′s! Beautiful!

Your awesome pictures remind me how much I miss SF. Have some mochi ice cream for me ;-)

Beautiful pictures, wow! I love your outfit.
I’ve only been to SF once, and I think it’s about time I go back.

Or at least it’s time for me to eat sushi and daydream about it =)

I like it a lot when you do these neighborhood posts. I haven’t been to San Francisco in a couple years and they really make me want to go back! We used to go every year and I always liked exploring Japantown. We have a Kinokuniya here in Seattle too and I could spend hours in there looking at all the fashion magazines and coffee table books.

Today I went to China Town in London and saw thousands of paper lanterns for the Chinese New Year, but they weren’t as pretty as those Japanese floral lanterns!! I wish there was a Japantown in London as I LOVE all things Japanese.

Mmm Meat Day! hee hee! And I’ve always loved those kind of lanterns too. I hope to one day live in a space where I can accomodate several of them. :)

Japan town!! Sounds like fun! Kinokuniya is a big book store. My husband’s favorite place. Here in Japan, Kinokuniya has their own building and it has 8 floors and it’s all fulfilled by books!! If you have a chance, come to Japan;)
By the way, the lanterns are very pretty. I had never seen like them here… Wow, Japan town!

I love it when you post photos of yourself. Sheesh you’re so cute. Anyway, I love the spotlight on J-Town. Random fact: my grandfather was a master calligrapher and handmade the original street signs in that area :)
