Last Bart Ticket

I’m happy to report that my final day of work yesterday went pretty smoothly. I took Bart downtown and the picture below is my round trip ticket. I’m hoping that this ticket signifies the end of daily commuting. Despite the rain that covered the Bay Area, I felt terrific and walking away from work for the last time felt almost surreal.

When I got home, my husband and I walked to our favorite Chinese restaurant down the street and as we munched on our mustard greens, inspired by Lynda Weinman and Bruce Heavin, we fine-tuned our short and long term goals for the years to come. We feel ecstatic and optimistic of what lies ahead.

10 Things I Know to Be True

by Lynda Weinman & Bruce Heavin

  1. Things I did early in life may not seem to have meaning then. But today they make all the sense in the world.
  2. Business doesn’t have to be a win/lose or winner take all proposition. Everyone can win.
  3. Your passions are your drive in life, love, & career. Do not ignore them.
  4. To master anything in life you must do it again and again, over and over. Often without success, but learning and fine tuning along the way.
  5. Education is life long. Stay hungry. Stay curious.
  6. Our biggest successes happened when the biggest doors of opportunity were slammed shut. Learn to look for other ways to achieve goals when opportunities close. Own your problem and invent your solution when others do not solve the problem for you.
  7. Do what you love and do it really, really, really well.
  8. Define your own educational experience. My best educational experiences happened when I was the motivated learner, making up my own experience.
  9. Curiosity only kills cats.
  10. Make your mistakes, frequently, fast and often. Just not repetitively.

I spent the rest of the evening cleaning my home office, which over the last month had become a quintessential pig sty. I corralled my computers, which were running free range through the house, and arranged them on my rosewood desk, with a Mac on the left and a couple of my small PCs on the right. Hey, if you’re gonna do web development, both platforms are mandatory.

I also moved my craft supplies into my room. Up until yesterday, they were monopolizing the dining room. Now that I’m organized, my mind is clear and I can get to work! I’m diggin’ my new workspace. Click the “Read More” link to see more pics!

Whoa Katrina, you have such a stunning home and work space. This post was a huge inspiration for me and many others. I feel very motivated and inspired. I hope everything goes well. I definitely agree with the last motivation, make mistakes, but don’t make them repetitively. We’re only human, so we’re bound to make mistakes and even technology isn’t 100% reliable, so how can we be?

Your home looks so warm, cozy and quaint. I love it all. I can’t wait to have a more permanent home, working and earning money, I can’t wait to decorate my own home and call it mine.

OH MY GOD! HIGH FIVE for loving ANTM. I’ve been watching it since Season 1… whoa I was only 14 years old, I’m 21 and I’m still in love with that show. I would love to be on that show! Haha… just to experience a reality show environment, but the deal breakers are nude shoots and creepy crawlies… ewww… besides that, I’d do anything that expect the models to do… aww sad face. Anyways, I haven’t watched last night’s episode yet… but I will… I’m rooting for Raina and Jessica. I love dark haired girls! :)

Your workspace is so lovely! I wish I could decorate my room like that, I have absolutely nothing on my walls except a photo mobile that hangs down from the ceiling. I’m so glad your last day went well!

Your workspace looks amazing. I really like the warm and cozy corner where there sit a nice arm chair, the inspiration boards. I just love your photos. :)

Oh i kinda know how that feel when you made your last round walking away from work! I did that a year a go, it really felt terrific.

And good luck with the contract jobs you have secured! ;)

Oh. Katrina! You have such a lovely house. I wish I could have a house and decorate it too…but I’m always moving from one place to another …so my room is always quite boring with just the necessity stuff…oh. I will decorate them with your heart garlands! btw. I got them yesterday! Thank you so so much! I hope my package will reach you soon.

Hope your new freelance projects will be smoothly!

Aww look at that pup sneaking into your picture! How cute!

Its pretty cool that you had the courage to walk away from something that wasn’t making you happy or challenging you in the right way anymore. I like that list of things you put up, especially number 5. From the looks of your workspace, you are definitely the type of person that is always striving to learn more. You have such a cool collection of books, pictures, and trinkets – I feel like I could browse that room for hours!

Yesss to working with two monitors! I love the nicely curated ‘messiness’, so much to see and absorb, I’m sure being in it gives off great energy!

About movie recommendations: The two that I really enjoyed lately are Whip It (Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut) and Adam (a film about love and a man with Asperger’s syndrome).

Great style.
I moved to a new appartment last month and there is so much left to do. Hope my flat is getting as comfortable as yours. I’m still living with empty walls and lots of boxes.
