Inspiration

Aaaahhh… what a great weekend it’s been — busy, but great all the same! Today is the first day I’ve had the chance to really relax and unwind without any pressure to do anything (at least nothing is due today!). I need more days like this — they’re so rare and so precious.

Anyhoo, I wanna share a few pages from my old inspiration notebook. Before I started blogging in 2007, this notebook served as my creative outlet and is full of catalog clippings that caught my eye. These are from Anthropologie, JCrew, and Free People.

I bet 99% of bloggers have always had some sort of inspiration journal/file. I can remember way back in the 5th grade ripping up magazines and filing away for later. Geek? Yes. Still doing it? Yes now I’ve just added digital to the mix.

What a fab idea for a scrapbook! Beautiful. I’d love to do something like this.

These are great! I definitely have many folders and notebooks full of clippings… and I save all of the Anthropologie catalogs, I can’t even rip them up!

What a fun book! I really like this. If you don’t mind my asking, what is the first handwritten looking font you used?

I love this – I wish I had the discipline to put all my torn out pages in a book! Sadly they reside in piles or jammed into file folders…. :)

Love the journal! Did you made that yourself or bought it?

ps. i am working on the graphic you asked for. so sorry for the delay! i keep forgetting about it :( will do it asap.

what a gorgeous resource… last weekend i decided to tackle the piles + piles of magazine clippings i have stacked up and let’s just say i ran out of steam once i’d made a huge mess!! i’m inspired to start again :)

@kat: i agree with you completely! as a matter of fact, it would be interesting to learn more about starbucks’ creative team. their brand is consistently sharp and very cool.

@danielle: i know what you mean — i have stacks of anthro catalogs, too. do you have urban outfitters? equally well done (hey, same company, after all)!

@carrie: strangelove and learning curve :)

@jessica: you’re not alone — me, too.

@anna: oh, i wish! i bought it from borders books.

@notebookdoodles: there’s lots of writing in the form of navel-gazing, too. but, i intend to fill it up one day with more clippings. i’m glad you remembered the button, by the way — will bug you till i get it! ;)

@rose: YOU inspire me.

I still do the very same thing. It’s a nice way to relax on a Sunday afternoon when I don’t want to be in front of a computer screen. Thanks so much for posting some pages! I may have to do the same… I just *love* looking at other’s notebooks! :)

Your inspiration journals are an inspiration!! I wish I was as disciplined as you! I had a stackof magazines I was saving to do something similar and then I gave up and tossed them out because I just couldn’t find the time to do it :o/ Hope you enjoyed your “day off”. I look forward to those too!!

So basically you’ve always been awesome :)

22 Bee 02/01/2011 at 6:19 pm

this is so cool. i love this idea!!!

What a great idea! I was thinking of making one of these from my favorite Fudge and So-en layouts… but I can bear to cut up either of those magazines even though keeping the other articles is pointless because I can’t read Japanese. Maybe I’ll do it with my Muji brochure collection.

25 Joy 02/04/2011 at 11:13 pm

I think you’re the true inspiration!

26 Michelle 02/05/2011 at 7:56 am

This cracks me up. I have an old notebook with clippings too. I have some of the same images and remember others. Now I have a million bookmarks with a million saved pages on them :)

27 Diana 02/06/2011 at 12:07 am

I have one of these, too but yours is so much more organized and pretty!

Mine has a very old and rare pic of Zooey D with short blonde hair. Well, it was rare in the days of when Google Images weren’t always there ;)

Your Inspiration Notebook is really inspirational, this reminds me of the morgue file my instructor wants us to make for our Principles of Design class. It’s classic!

LOVE IT! I have always wanted to be someone that journals (because I have this feaqr that my life is moving too fast and I won’t remember these great years) but stifled by perfectionism, I never seem to get to it. Looking at yours makes me feel like I could be looking at my own. Love it all, especially the blue footed boobie!
