The inspiration for today’s tutorial is Ruche’s shop cover image for Spring 2011. I know I’m a season late! This tutorial was actually scheduled to post months ago, but you know how life is, right? Anyway, I’m happy it’s finished. :)
One of the many places I visit for graphical inspiration is Ruche*. Their graphics department excels at creating soft, light, and very feminine imagery. When I saw their shop, I thought, “Wow, I need to figure out how they did that!”
My working-photo for today’s tutorial is of the lovely Maria Confer who blogs at Lulu Letty — thanks, Maria! ♥
I realize that my final image doesn’t look exactly like the Ruche ideal, so if you know how I can improve my techniques in any way, please let me know in the comments — I’d appreciate it. Anyhoo, here’s the screencast tutorial, best viewed in fullscreen, HD.
Behind the illusion…
The screencast covers these tools/techniques:
- pen tool and selection
- masks
- clipping masks
- brushes
- layer adjustments
- shape blur, texturizer, text
Thank you for all the wonderful music, Allen Coté!
