DIY Custom Envelopes

A few days ago, I recalled a 2007 post on How About Orange, about making envelopes out of patterned paper. The reason I thought of it is that I’m down to my last few glassine envelopes. I was inspired by Jess’ clever idea to make my own using one of my 2.5 x 3.5 inch glassine envelopes as a template.

I also decided to have fun with my new envelopes by crafting my own paper collage-style, combining pages from an old logarithm book, kraft paper, paper doilies, gold stickers, dry cleaning receipts, post-its, origami paper bits and of course, washi tape.

This is a great weekend project. If you want to make your own, all it takes is an envelope for a pattern, some paper, scissors, glue, and all the paper scraps that you need to clean out of your purse (receipts, parking tickets and such). :)

I’ve made envelopes out of magazine pages with my son to send drawings to his grandmas and grandpas, but this style would be more useful for shipping out my prints. I’ll have to flatten out a bigger shipping envelope, and see about printing a design on some newsprint or brown paper…. You’re giving me some awesome ideas. I’m going to have to get busy.
