Noteworthy: Joseph Cornell Box

I spent the weekend getting caught up with my blog reading. One thing led to another and I found myself reading the premier issue of Paper Runway. I was intrigued by the work of artist Nicola Starr. Her work is a marvel of simplicity and composition. I urge you to check out her site and Paper Runway Issue #1 to see samples of her work.

Among Ms. Starr’s influences is collage artist Joseph Cornell, known for his use of ephemera and found objects in collages and dioramas. Joseph Cornell Box is a site, and book, dedicated to Mr. Cornell. The site is entertaining and offers beautiful collages as desktop wallpapers. If you’re interested in creating your own collages, the site also has ephemera image downloads* suitable for printing. You will find vintage labels, a plate of donuts, the planet saturn, birds, butterflies, sea shells, flowers, stamps, and vintage maps — really fun stuff.
