Photoshop: Bunting Flag Brush

I was inspired by Cathe Holden’s pennant rubber stamp DIY to create a bunting flag brush in Photoshop. The brush I made is composed of a single triangle shape which you can make either with the pen tool or the polygonal lasso tool. It’s too bad I didn’t know about this technique when I made some bunting flag clipart for Piper’s ABC Blog Hop last year! Making bunting flags with versatile brushes is far simpler than the copy and paste method you have to use with clip art. Live and learn.

Below are some of the common brush settings I use — as you can see, there are many settings you can tweak to get your own look. Please note that the following “steps” are cumulative. For example, to achieve the brush effect in Step #4, you have to complete Steps 1-3 first. For related Photoshop brush techniques, please check out this post.

Step 3 Step 4

Steps 5 and 6 are useful if you have a tablet. For example, varying the pen pressure can change the size and color of the bunting.

These brushes are pretty easy to make, but if you’re a member, they’re already made for you and ready to go:
