I bought this vintage-inspired ruby sequined beret from Forever 21 about a week ago. I thought it was cute and since it was only $7.80, it was a no-brainer. I wore it the entire weekend. Problem was, because I didn’t know any better, I wore it like a shower cap.
Well, today I read a post by Rebecca of The Clothes Horse. She had just bought a fabulous red dress and in her photos, she wore it with a faux leopard jacket, polka-heart tights, a Village Idiot necklace, and topped the ensemble with a vintage sequined beret — worn just so. I couldn’t help but chuckle at myself when I thought about how I wore it. See the before and after pictures below. I think it’s quite an improvement.

I finally did it. I jumped onto the hair bow bandwagon and bought this knitted moss hair bow from Red Velvet Art. I love the color of the soft chartreuse yarn, and the size is just right for me. However, I did change the smooth alligator clip for one with teeth to secure it in place. This pretty bow comes in other colors, too: white, violet, yellow, and of course, classic red.

I realize this may be sacrilegious. “Embellishing a perfectly designed Orla Kiely
bag? Are you nuts?” I love Orla Kiely. I really do. But I’m also a huge fan of accessorizing my bags, just like what I did with Dr. Bag. My original intention was to move the embellishments I used for Dr. Bag to my Orla bag, but I changed my mind when I saw these red terry cloth rosette pins at Claire’s the other day. Originally priced at $4.50, they were on sale for a dollar each and I happily bought three.
How did I attach these pins to my Orla Kiely bag? No worries — I didn’t fasten the pins directly on the bag. Instead, I used a ribbon several inches in length, and secured two knots around one of the handles. Then, I fastened one of the flower pins to the central knot and then fastened the other two flower pins to the fringes, resulting in a small bouquet of terry cloth rosettes. And that’s how I pimped out my Orla Kiely bag.

The rosettes, netting, and feathers of this Cocktail Hair Clip from Urban Outfitters bring to mind images of old Hollywood and glamour, does it not? I have admired this particular clip for some time now and have seriously considered buying it a couple of times. But, I don’t think I’d have the nerve to wear it. It’s so pretty though!
